Activities
The Alfred Moore Chapter, NSDAR, members are involved in a wide range of projects and activities that are related to our goals of historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Our members use their talents to help support our chapter, our community, and our nation. Some examples of recent activities and projects are:
Historic preservation
- Supporting historical sites with programs, preservation, special projects, and donations
- Commemorating historical events
- Preserving genealogical records
- Sponsoring a historical book club
Education
- Sponsoring the local DAR Good Citizen program
- Promoting education and citizenship through youth programs
- Sponsoring the House in the Horseshoe Society of the Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.)
- Supporting the DAR Schools
- Sponsoring the American History Essay Contest for youth in grades five through eight
- Contributing to our community by adopting a street to be cleaned periodically
- Promoting literacy with book donations, a chapter book club, and tutoring
Patriotism
- Volunteering in the community
- Participating in local parades and memorial services for our veterans
- Participating in Wreaths Across America by purchasing and laying wreaths on veterans’ graves
- Offering support to America’s service personnel in current conflicts abroad
- Sponsoring special programs promoting the Constitution during its official celebration week
- Presenting patriotic awards to deserving individuals including DAR Good Citizens awards and ROTC medals awards
- Presenting Constitution Week programs in elementary schools
- Participating and donating American flags at Habitat for Humanity dedications
- Participating in Service to America by volunteering in our community as well as Special In-Service Day each October
Alfred Moore Chapter, NSDAR, members support our community in many ways. We volunteer and support Family Promise, a shelter for mothers and their children. We also volunteer at historical sites, and various community organizations. These are just a few of the ways that we support our community.
