Chapter Activities and Projects

The primary focus of our chapter activities is the support of the National Society’s mission to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Below is a list of activities in each of these categories.

Historic Preservation

  • Support the National Society in the preservation of the NSDAR buildings.
  • Participate in state historic events.
  • Participate in Wilkes County’s “Overland Victory Trail Days.”

Education

  • Observe Constitution Week in community and local elementary schools.
  • Sponsor DAR American History Essay Contest for grades 5-8.
  • Sponsor the DAR Patriots of the American Revolution DAR High School Essay Contest for high school students.
  • Sponsor DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship for local high schools.
  • Sponsor DAR Youth Citizenship Award for local middle schools.
  • Provide NSDAR College Scholarship program and NCSDAR Scholarship program information to local high school guidance counselors.
  • Participate in the “Box Top” program for Crossnore School.

Patriotism

  • Participate in DAR National Day of Service by supporting local non-profit organizations.
  • Sponsor U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) in local high school.
  • Partner with local VFW Post to observe “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day”.
  • Participate in the “Wreaths Across America” program.
  • Observe Memorial Day by placing flags on veterans’ graves at local cemetery.
