The chapter sponsors the DAR Good Citizens award and Scholarship contest at Ashbrook High School, Bessemer City High School, Forestview High School, Gaston Christian School, Gaston Early College School, Highland School of Technology, Hunter Huss High School and Piedmont Community Charter School.
The faculty chooses a senior as its school’s DAR Good Citizen winner. A committee comprised of three non-DAR members judges the individual school winners and selects one entry as the chapter’s winner. The chapter’s winner information is submitted for the next level of judging.

The chapter sponsors and awards the DAR Bronze JROTC Medal at Ashbrook High School and Hunter Huss High School. Students must be in the upper 25% of their classes in ROTC and in academic subjects and show qualities of dependability and good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership ability and a fundamental and patriotic understanding.
In addition, the chapter sponsors and awards the Silver DAR Outstanding Cadet Medal to a cadet with the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Corps Gastonia Composite Squadron that has distinguished him or herself through outstanding leadership, honor, service, courage and patriotism.
