Chapter members make clothing protector bibs for veterans in local nursing homes.

Activities

The primary focus of our chapter activities is the support of the National Society’s mission to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Below is a list of ongoing activities.

  • Show appreciation to our county EMS/Fire personnel as part of DAR’s Service to America project
  • Participate in Wreaths Across America
  • Present the Community Service Award to recognize worthy individuals and organizations for outstanding voluntary service
  • Observe Constitution Week in September with community displays and ringing of church bells
  • Support veterans by giving needed supplies to the Veterans Clinic in Greenville
  • Make clothing protector bibs for the veterans in local nursing homes
  • Send Christmas cards to the residents in the veterans nursing home in Kinston
  • Collect and send coupons to the military bases overseas
  • Support Crossnore School and Children’s Home
  • Organize DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest for local high school seniors
  • Present certificates and medals to outstanding JROTC members at Martin and Hertford County high schools
  • Sponsor the DAR American history essay contests for youth in grades five through eight
  • Celebrate the Vietnam Veterans Remembrance Day
  • Volunteer and provide additional support to children in classrooms and schools in the community
  • Support the historical Asa Biggs House
  • Decorate the Asa Biggs House each year for Christmas open house
  • Volunteer at the Asa Biggs House genealogy library
  • Support the North Carolina Society DAR activities

At each meeting, we have interesting and informative programs based on the following topics: historic, patriotic, education, and membership. Programs are presented by one of the chapter members or a guest speaker.
