Activities

The General James Moore Chapter, NSDAR, participates in activities that further the mission of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. This includes securing America’s future through better education for children, promoting patriotism, and preserving American history. We annually participate in programs of the National Society and the North Carolina Society highlighted by the following:

Education

  • Regularly pick up trash along an Adopt-a-Highway stretch in Wake Forest that our chapter sponsors
  • Strongly support DAR sponsored schools
  • Present Constitution Week program at the local Boys and Girls Club of America
  • Participate in Bells Across America on September 17 to honor the signing of the United States Constitution
  • Sponsor DAR American History Essay Contests for grades five and six
  • Organize DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest for local high school seniors
  • Recognize outstanding JROTC members at local high schools
  • Support the Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) State Conference

Promoting Patriotism

  • Support U.S. veterans
  • Recognize local veterans
  • Serve as a Commemorative Partner of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War
  • Donate to Wreaths Across America
  • Participate in Memorial and Veterans Day programs at Wake Forest Veterans Memorial
  • Annually support the Durham Veterans’ Hospital

Historic Preservation

  • Support the National Society for the preservation of the NSDAR buildings
  • Participate in local historic programs, tours, and events
  • Present chapter programs that focus on local historic preservation projects like the Joel Lane House
  • Serve as docents at the Wake Forest Historical Museum
